A day in our Homeschool

We’ve been a little lax on school lately. Spring is in the air and we’re itching to get outside, but we have stuck to our bare-bones routine. We sing a song (or several if Jonah gets his way) and say a prayer, then Brenna works on memorizing the Articles of Faith. She’s on number 6 now. Then we read. Brenna reads me a book, I read a book Jonah picks out, and then I read a chapter of our latest novel. Right now we’re working on The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis. Usually we do some penmanship practice and I set Brenna free to color and draw to her hearts content. She’s become pretty serious about her art lately.

Here’s an orchestra she drew yesterday while listening to classical radio.

Dripping with drama

Brenna: Sister Ahlquist, I have a really important question I’ve been wanting to ask you for a long time.

Thoughtful Primary teacher: Oh, you do? What is this question?

Brenna: Why do men have hair in their noses?

Sister Ahlquist falls off her chair laughing.

Okay, I watch Oprah sometimes…

but really, not much else unless it’s Cyberchase or Zoom after the house is picked up in the evening. So, what has inspired my daughter to give Jonah a makeover?

Brenna: Okay Jonah. We’re done playing gymnastics. It’s time for your makeover. We need to get you looking good.

Jonah: (dutifully follows)

Brenna: I’m the makeup artist. First I’ll do your hair. Let’s slick it down…

This is all going on at the moment I’m writing this.

I remember dressing my little brother Ben up in my clothes. There was one time we went all out with fake boobs and everything. My Dad’s only comment was, “You look a little lopsided there.”

Now Ben’s a bartender who cross dresses on Saturdays for extra tips.

Hmmmmm…..

Long time no see…

I’ve been really out of the habbit of writing. We had a good week last week. Brenna’s reading has really taken off and we’ve started to practice writing letters the right way. Logan is pretty self entertained lately–so I got two stuffed animals knit last week. One is a bunny out of my handspun angora yarn and the other is a brown teddy bear out of the wool from my learn to spin kits. (I probably should have been working on something else, but once I start, I just can’t stop until I see what it’s going to look like.) We’ve also been furniture shopping to fill our empty living room–which is exciting. I’ll try to get back in the habbit of writing so that I can elaborate on all this stuff–and post picutres.
