Making a Skein

It's not just to look cool...

Now that your fiber has been spun and plied into beautiful yarn, you need to make it into a skein. Find something that will stay a fixed distance apart-the back or legs of a chair work well. I've found it works best if one wrap around the object is 18 inches or more. I use three legs of an upturned folding chair. You could also use someone's hands if you have to. Wrap all of your yarn around the chair and tie the ends together in a lose bow. Cut some pieces of another yarn and secure your skein by tying figure eights in two or three places. Slide this off, holding the loop taught in both hands, twist it, fold it in half and let it twist back on itself and slide one end of the loop over the other.

You're done!!! You made your very own yarn!!! Now don't get frustrated if it doesn't look perfect. There are a few things you should try...
