moms need to learn how to do new things

For Barry’s birthday I got him a rock climbing rope and some other gear he didn’t have. He had been saying that he really wants get into climbing now that we live by mountains again. We’ve taken the kids several times– me chasing Ian, bouncing Hunter and taking pictures, him belaying. Our best friends from college came last weekend with their 5 little girls and because of some stroke of insanity we took 10 children under the age of 10 rock climbing. Let me just say that our hands were a bit too full to get many pictures of that adventure.

Yesterday we got to go with other grown ups with fewer kids, so I actually got to give it a try.

that's me!

Good thing this picture can’t show my legs totally shaking.

I learned that I need to have shorter fingernails.

My arms are a bit sore today.

  1. Wow, that looks scary. I had a first time at something scary and thrilling this past weekend as well. My gear included a harness that looked similar to yours but I was, what seemed like miles, in the air being pulled by a boat. I’ll have to blog about it.
Are you going up or down? I can see how your arms would be sore.

  2. wow!! :^D

this is something i would love to try someday, but i know i need more upper-body strength, since i currently have none. :^P

i agree completely that moms should learn to do new things. :^)

  3. It looks like a great time was had by all. One good thing about kids rock climbing is that they develop their confidence the higher they go and the harder their routes become, and this confidence transfers to other parts of their lives later on.

I hope you keep on climbing. It’s a fun sport, a great workout, andaddictive, too. Two years ago I quit working to climb in Europe full-time.
