spruced up corners

A couple of weekends ago I framed up a spider mum print for a bridal shower because I just couldn’t find anything to buy that I really liked the idea of buying.

Once I did that I wanted one for myself.

I also had this amazing letterpress print of the Salt Lake Temple waiting for a frame.

So, this weekend I took a trip to Ikea, framed some prints, and spruced up my mantle and the top of the amoire in my entryway.

slipcover sneak peek

The slipcover for my wingback chair has been nearly done for months.  I just need to add ties to the back opening.  Do you think I can get it done this week to show you all?  I hope so.  I have a sweater I need to finish for Eva before she outgrows it.  Maybe I’ll have to save that project for next week when Barry and I travel.

We’re going on a house hunting trip to Washington D.C.  We’re moving there in July.  Have I mentioned that here yet?  Do you think there is such thing as a rental house within a reasonable commute of the Pentagon that will have a big yard, lots of trees, allow us have a dog and chickens, fit 2 parents and 6 kids, and be within our budget?  How do I go about finding such a place?  My main method of house hunting has been craigslist.  That’s how we found a house here in Colorado.  There’s got to be a better way.  A property management company?  A realtor?  Advice anyone?

So excited for you. Homeschooling near D.C. is so amazing. There is so much to see. Are you still in touch with Jana Glass? They are moving here to AZ this summer from that area – I think. Somewhere in VA. She might be a good one to ask. We used militarybyowner.com to sell our house in MD. You can talk to the housing office for the base that you’ll be assigned to. You can also talk to those that Barry will be working with, they would know more about the area. Good luck. Moving is exciting and stressful all at the same time. Miss you guys.

  2. Eek…close to the Pentagon? I have a few ideas…give me a call and I’ll talk through some with you :) Fun area, crazy busy with a zillion people. Love your chair!

  3. Yeah- we are staying with the Glass’ for part of our trip. We’ll also stay with a guy Barry works with and some old friends from college. It seems most people we talk to recommend VA, what are your thoughts about MD?

  4. I’ve got some great friends that live there. I am sure they could steer you somewhere. They just bought a small fixer upper, and had their 4th baby… email me, I will be happy to pass on their info (they are the type of people that would be very happy to help out). They are LDS. They rented a year or two before buying.

  5. Wow! You guys are moving again! No tips for the househunting, but I’m sure you’ll manage!

  6. Hurrah! I am usually just a lurker here, but I had to pipe in. We just moved to the DC area about 9 months ago. We live in Silver Spring, Maryland about 6 minutes from the temple. Everyone usually talks about Virginia, but we love it here in Maryland and we have found it to not feel as crowded as Virginia. Anyway, my husband works near the White House and commutes everyday on the metro. We bought our home close to a metro stop and it has been a lifesaver. We have pretty good access to downtown DC as well. If you have any questions, you can email me if you would like at mzirks9 at yahoo dot com. Also, lots of the wards here have housing specialists who keep tabs on rentals and other housing options in their boundaries. If you want some info, I can get it for you. I’m not sure what the laws are in Virginia, but the chicken laws are changing in Maryland in July, making it easier to have chickens in your backyard. I’m hoping we get some next spring! Can’t wait to see where you end up. Good luck!
